While the average American stands in a long line at the gas station paying $6.28 for a single gallon of diesel, and while tent cities for the homeless spread across the streets of California and New York, the most viral question on TikTok and X before the midterm elections on November 3, 2026, is: Where is our tax money going?

This question is no longer marginal. It has become the number one headline of the election campaign. While American families suffer from inflation, soaring housing costs, and health insurance, official figures show that Washington continues to pump billions of dollars as weapons abroad.

The war in Ukraine alone has cost the American taxpayer more than $175 billion since 2022 under President Biden, according to Congressional data. Although President Donald Trump announced on the first day of his second term a freeze on all foreign aid under the slogan "America First" except for Egypt and Israel, arms shipments worth nearly $20 billion are still flowing to Kyiv. These are remnants of old contracts signed by Biden, including Patriot and NASAMS missiles and 155mm artillery shells.

On the other front, in Gaza, the United States continues to provide $3.8 billion annually in military aid to Israel, the largest military aid package to a foreign country in the world. This figure has become the subject of fierce debate within the Democratic Party itself, with half of Senate Democrats voting this summer in favor of resolutions to cut or restrict that aid because of the war in Gaza.

The stark paradox seen by the American voter is that Trump himself is now asking Congress to raise the Pentagon budget to $1.5 trillion, an increase of 67%, at a time when he is cutting social support programs and food aid. Democrats accuse Trump of funding wars at the expense of the citizen, while Republicans respond that Trump is the one who finally forced Europe to pay for American weapons for Ukraine through the new PURL mechanism, after Biden was giving it away "for free," as Trump described it.

Today, the most viral videos on TikTok are not of politicians, but of a man sleeping in his car in Los Angeles saying, "I work full-time and I can't afford rent, while my taxes are turned into missiles." That video alone has garnered 12 million views in 48 hours.

So, the November 3 election will not be about Democrat or Republican, but about the answer to one simple question: Do you want your tax money to go to missiles in Ukraine and Gaza, or to lower the price of gasoline and secure a roof over your head inside America?
